Learning with Joy: Reimagining School Culture
Kisumu – August 9, 2025
Over 80 teachers from across Kisumu County gathered at LakeHub, Lake Basin Mall, for the 2025 Tufunzeni Teachers Summit, a transformative day dedicated to reshaping the way we think about education.
Theme, “Learning with Joy: Reimagining School Culture,” challenged educators to see joy not as a fleeting classroom moment, but as a core pillar of school culture one that fuels belonging, care, and academic success.
Among the day’s highlights was a deeply engaging session by Lynette Odidi, CEO of Optimum Life Choices, who spoke on “Teacher Well-being as a Pillar of School Culture.” Dr. Odidi unpacked the often-overlooked truth: a teacher’s mental health directly shapes the classroom atmosphere. Through practical strategies and lived insights, she encouraged educators to prioritize self-care, set healthy boundaries, and nurture their own joy because well-supported teachers create thriving students.
The event was not just a series of talks. It was a hands-on learning experience, teachers engaged in interactive activities, collaborated in small groups, and connected with peers equally committed to transforming school environments.
In a country where educators often work under immense pressure, the summit served as a reminder and a movement: schools flourish when the well-being of both students and teachers is intentionally cultivated.
For Optimum Life Choices and its Dancing Brain initiative, this aligns perfectly with our mission to advance mental wellness in learning spaces through evidence-based strategies, creative engagement, and community empowerment.
“A joyful school culture doesn’t happen by accident—it’s built, one intentional choice at a time,” said Dr. Odidi.
